Summer love: spicy coral toenails + a new baby boy

Hi friend. It’s Jocelyn.

Sorry to be so MIA at lt3 the past several weeks.

I’m happy to say, though, that I can reach my toes again! And I’m even happier to say that we have a new, healthy-in-every-way, snuggly baby boy in our family.

So, first things first: a much-needed at-home pedicure to freshen summer toes. (My last pedicure was also an at-home job performed about a month ago with such sweetness and empathy by my incredibly selfless husband. How cute is that!? Amanda would certainly say, “Swoon.”) And second things second: back to blogging regularly with you all after a few important and blessed weeks of maternity leave. 🙂

Anyway, summer love to you and xoxo.

Love, Jocelyn + a baby boy + spicy coral toenails!

Summer MiniBook Progress

Remember how I told you about my summer Mini Book project here, inspired by Elise Blaha?

Well here’s the progress so far:

You can click on any image to enlarge it.

Here are the highlights: {and I will mention, this has been one of my favorite projects in a long time and I’m getting immense joy from it.}

– When I was in Yakima, all i had was a disposable camera, which was great because I ended up with prints from everything I did, but not so great cause the image quality leaves something to be desired.

– I’ve been hoarding momentos from the summer> tickets, flyers, hair feathers, etc.

– Magazine and catalog clippings work really well, too.

– Shaped paper clips are from Fred Meyer. Labels are from TwoGirlzStuff {which is currently closed, though I’m sure other etsy sellers would offer similar products}. Stitching rub-ons are from Joann’s. Stick on dividers can be found at office supply stores.

Is anyone else working on a summer book? How’s it going so far? What’s your favorite thing to use?

Celebrate: Giveaway Day 3

Today’s giveaway comes from Jenn Wheat over at the Wheat Market. Jenn recently reopened her etsy shop and I have to say, it’s better than ever! The shop features home accessories, fashion accessories, and Jenn recently started selling photography. The carefully chosen pieces in her shop are those special things that make a space or outfit special and that beg the question: “where did you get that?”

Here are a few of Jenn’s answers to my questions {what a good sport!}

1. How, when, and why did you start up your etsy shop?

I started my etsy shop on summer break from graduate school. I wanted a creative outlet where I could share thrift store finds, my love for textiles, photography, and simple rustic designs that I have so much fun making, like the driftwood jewelry hooks. Etsy makes setting up a shop very easy.

2. What’s your favorite part about owning your own business?

The Wheat Market is so much fun! I love the surge of excitement when someone buys an item. I feel so satisfied knowing one of my projects or vintage pieces finds a home.

3. What advice would you give to people who want to start their own business/etsy shop?

For me, I think the hardest part about starting The Wheat Market was having the courage to follow through with it. My advice would be to jump in! Do what you love.

4. What are three things you’re determined to do this summer?

(1) discover the perfect smoothie recipe (any suggestions?)
(2) take full advantage of the sunshine, especially with family + friends
(3) create this diy tufted headboard for my bedroom

To kick off the new section of the shop, she’s offering one reader the opporunity to choose any image from the shop and she’ll send it to you framed. How cool is that?

Here’s how to enter to win:

1. Answer this question: What photograph would you choose from Jenn’s shop?  (1 entry- required to win)

2. Follow our blog or subscribe to it in your reader. Leave a comment telling us that you’ve done so. (1 entry)

3. Tweet/Status update about this giveaway.  (1 entry) Examples:

  • “Love the giveaway on lemontree3.com today for a Wheat Market Photograph!”
  • “I entered to win a Wheat Market Photograph on lemontree3.com today. Did you?”
  • “I hope I win a Wheat Market Photograph from lemontree3.com. Giveaway starts today!”
    …..You get the idea.

4. Blog about our giveaway and leave a comment letting us know that you did so!

Easy as that. Up to FOUR entries per person for the duration of the giveaway.
The winner will be announced on MONDAY JULY 4th!

If you don’t win the giveaway, or would like other items from Jenn’s shop, use code LEMONTREE3 at checkout and receive 20% off, now through July 31!

Celebrate: Giveaway Day 1

Welcome to the Lemontree3 giveaway! Our first giveaway item comes from Anita at MonkeyMindDesign09. I wanted to properly introduce you guys so here are Anita’s responses to the questions I threw her way:

1. How and when did you start up your etsy shop?

“In October 2009, I decided to leave the ad agency world. It’s been about a year and a half, how time flies. I needed a change… a creative change that is. I went into a local boutique full of Etsy artists and was blown away. I had never heard of Etsy. Naturally I was curious and immediately jealous, they were doing what I’ve always wanted to do. So, I decided to go for it! Best decision I’ve ever made for my creative spirit.”

2. What’s your favorite part about owning your own business?

“I love the creative freedom. It’s all up to me… love that! But, on the other hand, I am my hardest critic. I guess that’s because I have high expectations. I also love the interaction with customers and receiving their positive feedback. It makes all the creative doubts and struggles worth it. So grateful for the business journey I’ve had and ready for more!”

3. What are your top summer sellers?

“My summer BBQ and party invitations have been doing well. I would also have to say, the daisy note cards are the next best sellers this summer. And for the second year in a row, I had an amazing Father’s Day season. So many features and sales.”

4. What advice would you give to people who want to start their own business/etsy shop?

“‘Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try,’ Unknown Source.
Welcome change and believe in yourself. Take it one step at a time and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Take time to get to know the Etsy community, they are the best support system you’ll find for your new endeavours. Especially if you’re like me, working from home and working by myself. Go into the forums and read all you can. Everyone is so willing to help and share their success tips. Don’t get overwhelmed with taking photos. Like everything, it takes practice. Finally, breathe, and remember to enjoy the journey!”

5. What are three things you’re determined to do this summer?

1) Spend as much time as I can outside with my daughter, hubby and dogs.
2) Get some new and awesome creative listed. Well, hoping it’s awesome.
3) Work on my studio space, I need to take this creative think tank to the next level.

SMASH Folios, now at Paper Source

Just as I was publishing this post about my Summer Mini book, I learned about the new SMASH folio journals {and super-fun accessories} now available at Paper Source.

Love, love, love. That little pen on the side has a black pen on one side and a glue pen on the other: genius! Check out this little video for ways to use the books. {hint: a lot like you’d use the minibooks}

For fellow Washingtonians, Paper Source IS opening their second store in the state later this summer at University Village in Seattle. Unfortunately, I want these books now!

Summer Minibook

I scrapbook.

Well, I did, I mean, I do… What I’m trying to say is that I do, but rarely, because I’m so far behind. And it seems like too much trouble to get everything out and start up again. So this summer, I’m trying something new. Sure, I’ll still attempt to scrapbook big occasions, but for everything little and sweet about my summer, I’ll minibook it.

I got this idea from Elise Blaha over at enJOY it. {If you don’t already follow her, you should. She makes projects, bakes bread, and runs. She’s cool.} She is the mastermind and all credit of any cool thought or idea goes to her. You can check out her Summer minibook adventure here.

All that to say, I was inspired. So I purchased just the cover {she offered this at one time… I’d email her if you’re interested} since it’s so cool and I needed something hard to act as a, well, cover. And Elise had embosed it with her unique “Summer twenty eleven” stamp, so I was sold. I also bought a paper pad from Martha that would be perfect for both traditional scrapbooking and for minibooking. If you chose to go this route, it’s perfect for leftover scrapbook scraps or just a few of your favorite summer-time designs. It doesn’t take much to make a book at only 4″ by 6″.

I had these O-rings that I had gotten earlier at Fred Meyer, I believe, and I punched a hole through the pages I had thus far. As the summer continues, I’ll add in photos, momentos, journaling and reminders. I’ll start off with our trip to Florida and my birthday getaway weekend.

Tune back in for updates!

You can get your own Summer mini book here.
